My ever-beautiful Diva is gone. I wanted to write something special about my remarkable girl, but
words seem to fail me.
She was an ABC Award of Merit (AOM) winner, my first Dam of Merit (DOM)
and most importantly, my best friend. She was shown
by Debbie Struff, and won her first ABC AOM at the age of 13
months as a "move-up". Then, just to show that she wasn't
just a pretty puppy, she won her second ABC AOM at 2 years of
age. She earned 20 Best of Breeds in a very limited specials
career, and then stayed home to just enjoy life and to have some
beautiful puppies.
Shortly after earning her D.O.M. award in 2006, she was shown in
Veterans at the ABC and was Best Veteran Bitch, which earned her
a place in Breed. In the company of all those young dogs
in their prime, she earned her Third Award of Merit. I
will always remember how she showed her heart out that day
(with Erin Stuff showing her for the first time).
Her injury/illness and death was so
sudden that I still can't believe that my happy, perky,
always-up-for-anything Diva is gone. She loved to chase squirrels,
rabbits, moles and anything else that moved (even butterflies!) but got along with every
dog and person she ever met, and always loved the show ring. I hope
she is running around now - whether in a show ring or enjoying the grass
and woods - free from pain. . .
She still looked
beautiful and enjoyed life up until the last. She was born into my hands
and I never would have guessed that she would bring me so much joy;
although when she died in my arms, it was one of the most painful days
of my life. Diva had quite an amazing life and I'm so blessed
to have had her for almost 9 years.
